Sadma Toh Hain…

I wonder… Ab tera kya hoon main? (Who am I to you?) Yes, I often wonder.

Sadma
Qateel Shifai

Sadma toh hai mujhe bhi ki tujhse judaa hoon main
Lekin ye sochta hoon ki ab tera kya hoon main

(I too am traumatized / sad that I am separated from you;
Then again I wonder now, who am I to you?)

Bikhraa pada hai tere hi ghar mein tera vajood
Bekaar mehafilon mein tujhe dhoondhtaa hoon main

(Your identity lies scattered in your own home;
In vain do I search for you in gatherings away from home)

Main khudkhushi ke jurm ka karta hoon aitaraaf
Apne badan ki qabr mein kabse gadaa hoon main

(I admit to the crime of suicide;
I have long been buried in the grave of my own body)

Kis-kiska naam laoon zabaan par ki tere saath,
har roz ek shakhs nayaa dekhtaa hoon main

(Whose names should I bring to my mouth that
Every day, there is someone new with you)

Kya jaane kis adaa se liyaa tune mera naam
Duniya samajh rahi hai ke sab kuch tera hoon main

(I wonder with what charm you took my name
The whole world now thinks that I am everything to you (I am your world))

Le mere tajrubon se sabak ae mere raqiib
Do chaar saal umr mein tujhse badaa hoon main

(Learn from my experiences, my rival in love
I am, after all, two to four years older to yo)

Jaagaa hua zameer voh aaina hai “Qateel”
Sone se pehle roz jise dekhta hoon main

(An awakened conscience is that mirror, Qateel (name of poet)
that I see every day before I sleep)
